Abstract

This paper examines the humus content of soils formed on gypsum rocks in the Republic of Macedonia. The average content of humic acids is lower than that of fulvic acids in these soils (Gypsic pararendzina, Gypsic rendzic Leptosol). The ratio of humic acids to fulvic acids is less than 1 for both soil types. Due to the presence of CaCO3 and CaSO4 in the solum of the studied soils, the fractions of humic and fulvic acids bound to calcium are the most dominant. In these soils, humic acids bound to calcium, sesquioxides, and clay (the stable fraction of humus) are much more prevalent than the mobile fractions, making the humus highly stable.
